Inside the Brussels bubble: Two reviews of the JCI EUKHT

Let's Do It! Campaign

In 2018 we are going to change the world. We are going to tackle one of the greatest global challenges there is – the world’s garbage!

Next leaders academy will take place in Tallinn, 23 – 26 January. For more information and registration contact Valeria Stulova, valeria.stulova@letsdoitworld.org.

For one day, the world will be focused on one cause with the most amazing results – a clean, waste-free and healthy world, and a renewed belief that together we can solve global problems. It will be the largest scale initiative in the history of humankind.

How?

By organizing the biggest and most ambitious project ever – World Cleanup Day 2018!

How to join?

We propose you, as a leader in JCI at a local and global level, to do it together with us.

1. Start a Let’s Do It! Cleanup in your country

Are you passionate about the idea of bringing your country together for a massive civic movement? Then we need you! The main thing we need from you? To think big, be passionate, and be positive! We have everything you need to get started right away and we’re here to help you build your campaign and offer support. A leader will:
become a member of the 150 most influential leaders in the world working for SDGs for the clean and healthy planet;
have an appointed mentor to consult regularly and visit at least twice a year; and
be invited to the Leaders Academy and World Congresses leading up to the year 2018 (participation costs covered).

The first Leader’s Academy takes place in Estonia, 24 – 26 August 2016.

The project will allow you to demonstrate how active citizenship in local communities can unite all sectors of society and people for a positive and sustainable global impact and:

2. Appoint a national project manager

A responsible project manager will oversee the campaign until 2018, ensure the maximum engagement of JCI Chapters nationwide and coordinate the cooperation with Jaycees internationally.

3. Join the existing team in your country

Check our page to get in contact with the team in your country. Everyone has a role to play in making the Let’s Do It! cleanup work. No matter who you are, where you come from, or what skills you have, if you’re determined to save the world from waste then your country needs you… join us today!

UN Sustainable Development Goals and Active Citizens Framework

The steps taken for a Clean World are directly addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals. Tackling waste pollution, adopting sustainable waste management systems, redesigning and innovating for maximum material recovery will play a significant role in reaching the goals for sustainable development. By building bridges between JCI and different partners in society, we will enable a new power of citizens who in an organized manner are able to continue conversations and actions after 2018 that encourage the adoption of sensible waste.
SDGs

What is World Cleanup Day 2018?

On September 8th, 2018 a wave of cleanups will start in Japan, sweeping around the globe as the sun rises in every country until we can celebrate a clean world, cooperation and friendship in Hawaii at the evening of the same day!

We expect every country to engage at least 5% of its population in the cleanup action, to pick up millions of tons of illegal garbage. It’s very powerful and symbolic action to prove that we take responsibility in the countries we live in. Preparations should start now in order to have enough time to map all the illegal garbage with apps, engage people, organisations, and governments.

Be a true leader in your community and make a real impact on the world! This is your life-time chance to really change the world!

Initiate a project in your country and involve at least 5% of the population in the one day cleanup.

Inside the Brussels bubble: Two reviews of the JCI EUKHT

We asked two participants of the 2018 JCI European Know-How Transfer to tell us about their overall experience. Read their stories here:     "No woman, no panel" “No woman, no panel” took my full attention during my visit of the European Parliament. I was trying to find out what it means in this context. I got my answer when in one of the committee meetings I was visiting, the chair mentioned that at the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality no voting will take place if there is an insufficient number of women participating at the meeting that have a voting right. Now it was getting even more exciting! I was shadowing Ms. Vilija Blinkeviciute, a great leader from my home country Lithuania and chair of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament. During our open conversations we touched the ground of women’s situation in the EU and discussed topics like domestic violence, economic life standards and life quali

Application Deadline April 11th - 2018 JCI European Academy

This years' JCI European Academy will be from the 17th to the 21st of August in Gothenburg, Sweden. The JCI European Academy offers trainings in various topics related to leadership. It is a fantastic chance to develop the JCI organization at a local, national and international level. For example, the international network that is created during the Academy can be the foundation of a sustainable cooperation among JCI Local Organizations across the country borders of Europe. The web application for participants has already opened and we have already heard back from a lot of countries. Still, there are quite a few countries left we have not heard of. The deadline for the applicants to fill in their web application is on 11th April.  Please promote this years' JCI European Academy to your National Organization! Experiencing the European Know-How Transfer - A participant's report

Lessons learned from the JCI European Know-How Transfer 2016 Almost 2 years have passed since I took part in the JCI European Know-How Transfer in Brussels. Those two years seem to have rushed by very fast as I can still remember the feeling of how it felt to be in a group of enthusiastic JCI members within the heart of European decision-making. For me the week offered an extensive outlook on how decision-making really happens on the European level - starting from lobbying the decision-makers in practice to cooperation between the European Parliament and the European Commission on setting directives. The best experience was that we really got the chance to learn from the people doing the actual daily work in Brussels and who had been involved in many of the decision-making processes for years. This is not something you can learn from text books or promotional brochures of the European Union. Personally, I also enjoyed the time I got to spend with my host Liisa Jaakonsaari, Fin
