Inside the Brussels bubble: Two reviews of the JCI EUKHT

News from Sponsorship Committee Members for Europe

Dear National Presidents, National Boards and fellow JCI members,

greetings from JCI Sponsorship Committee for Europe! To begin with, we would like to thank you for your support on collecting donations to JCI Foundation during JCI European Conference. We have got in donations during 2017 from 16 European JCI National Organizations (last year until the end of EC 8) from 32 donors (26). Especially the possibility to pay monthly and raise donor levels in steps have been good news to donors. We hope to continue getting your support.

The Corporate Partners Survey document on partnerships has been uploaded to Drive (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8V6RQyqqZiUSjNUNUJUbUt3RGM) and you can still fill it and return to us for partnerships discussions on European level.

The next deadline to apply Development Grants from JCI Foundation is 13th July. The application will be filled in online at www.jci.cc/foundation and as before, lots of preparations need to be done before submitting the information. Project plan, needs analysis, objectives, budget... use Active Citizen Framework and you will manage it :) Good luck with the applications! Decisions will be made at the JCI Executive Committee's Mid-Year Meeting at the end of July.

Feel free to contact us if you need anything, we are here for you :)

From Reus to Hellas - A European Project that brings Hope for Peace

"From Reus to Hellas" is a project initiated by JCI Reus, and managed by JCI member Jordi Cervera Guasch, 25, from Reus, Catalonia, that aims to help young refugees stranded in refugee camps on Lesbos by providing sport and leisure activities. In this article Jordi shared his fascinating story with us. Along with JCI Reus, Jordi designed a program that could be useful and sustainable in tending to those displaced populations and quickly put into action. After several fund-raising efforts and with the indispensable collaboration of JCI Greece, in August 2016 the first team of 12 lifeguards was sent to the Kara Tepe refugee camp on the Greek island Lesbos, in the framework of a program that was called "From Reus to Hellas". "I have been in contact with the water since I was a child, swimming, training, and working as a lifeguard on the Catalan beaches every single summer since I was seventeen. After I had seen the images of the Syri...

Inside the Brussels bubble: Two reviews of the JCI EUKHT

We asked two participants of the 2018 JCI European Know-How Transfer to tell us about their overall experience. Read their stories here:     "No woman, no panel" “No woman, no panel” took my full attention during my visit of the European Parliament. I was trying to find out what it means in this context. I got my answer when in one of the committee meetings I was visiting, the chair mentioned that at the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality no voting will take place if there is an insufficient number of women participating at the meeting that have a voting right. Now it was getting even more exciting! I was shadowing Ms. Vilija Blinkeviciute, a great leader from my home country Lithuania and chair of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament. During our open conversations we touched the ground of women’s situation in the EU and discussed topics like domestic violence, economic life standards and life quali...

Experiencing the European Know-How Transfer - A participant's report

Lessons learned from the JCI European Know-How Transfer 2016 Almost 2 years have passed since I took part in the JCI European Know-How Transfer in Brussels. Those two years seem to have rushed by very fast as I can still remember the feeling of how it felt to be in a group of enthusiastic JCI members within the heart of European decision-making. For me the week offered an extensive outlook on how decision-making really happens on the European level - starting from lobbying the decision-makers in practice to cooperation between the European Parliament and the European Commission on setting directives. The best experience was that we really got the chance to learn from the people doing the actual daily work in Brussels and who had been involved in many of the decision-making processes for years. This is not something you can learn from text books or promotional brochures of the European Union. Personally, I also enjoyed the time I got to spend with my host Liisa Jaakonsaari, Fin...
